Huddig AB develops an extensive range of articulated backhoe loaders and access platforms

In any area of work it is always vitally important to select the right tool or piece of equipment for the job. This is particularly true when it comes to diggers and backhoe loaders.

Producing around 200 such machines every year,Huddig AB represents a major player in this market.Operating from a base and manufacturing site in the coastal municipality of Hudiksvall in the centre of Sweden, the company develops, manufactures and markets utility machines for a range of clients and industry sectors.

With around 140 employees in total, Huddig builds complete articulated backhoe loaders on its own chassis, using the best engine, transmission and hydraulic components. The company's two models - the Huddig 1060,which weighs 10.4 tons, and the Huddig 1260,which weighs 12.8 tons - are used for many different purposes ranging from railway maintenance to work in cable laying and telecommunications.

The machines can be equipped with various attachments, and together with the company's access platforms - the Huddig Lift 2000 (which has a working height of 20.1m with two persons or 200kg on the access platform) and the business' latest product, the Huddig Lift 1420 (which has a working height of 14.2m with two persons on the access platform) - the machines can undertake a wide range of tasks in addition to normal excavating and loading.

Since 1959, the company has manufactured over 10,000 articulated backhoe loaders and its own Huddig brand has been the market leader of loaders in Sweden for a significant period, all thanks to the organisation's unique formula for success: “The customers wish for improvements and modifications are our inspiration and guiding-star.”As a result of these principles, today Huddig AB holds over 60 per cent of the Swedish market for articulated backhoe loaders.

Taking a closer look at the company's high quality product offering, the 1060 is Huddig's small articulated backhoe loader, which has superseded the previous model, the 860D. This piece of equipment has been updated with a Deutz engine to ensure it meets the category 3 environmental requirements that are now in place. This update, together with the new electronic fuel injection system has increased the engine's torque by ten per cent.

Thanks to a more dynamic gearbox and greater torque, and the six-speed gearbox with Soft-Shift-function, operators will definitely feel the difference. The cab with the curved windscreen has an excellent view in both dig and loading modes, and the spacious interior is also a key feature of the 1060.

Moving on to the second of Huddig's articulated backhoe loaders, the new and updated 1260 is the result of intense development work. The main changes in comparison with the former model are in three main areas: engine, body and electronics.Huddig's focus is always to fulfill its customers' needs, so after some careful listening it has developed an articulated backhoe loader that has the ability to handle the most variable working tasks.Weather conditions, terrains or times of year do not matter anymore - with the Huddig 1260 operators get a tool they can always trust and a multi-tool carrier that meets all requirements.

In terms of its access platforms, the Huddig Lift 2000 is a further development of the highly successful Lift 1800.The Lift 2000 has a completely new arm system with improved access angle (now 76 degrees compared to the 70 degrees of its predecessor). The sharper lift angle allows the machine to get closer to the pole whe  working on power lines, and the extended lift arm increases the working height of the access platform to 20.1m. Another new feature is that the Lift 2000 can accommodate two people up to its maximum height, and is certified to all the latest European standards for mobile access platforms EN 280.

Many of the features on the Lift 2000 will be recognisable from the Lift 1800.The electro-hydraulic self-levelling personnel basket and the quick-coupling system for the pole-grab and basket are typical examples. The lift can be controlled from the platform or the cab.All the cables and hoses lie well protected in a sturdy chain rail that can be opened for maintenance. Also new on the Lift 2000 is automatic parking-cradle alignment and the ability to park the lift from either direction.

Huddig's other access platform model is the Lift 1420,which has been developed perfectly inline with its customers' needs and wishes, and is based on the same components as the well proven Lift 2000.With three hydraulic extensions and two people in the personnel basket, this new access platform has a working height of 14.2m.The Lift 1420 can be mounted on Huddig's 1060 and 1260 models, and can also be used in conjunction with most of the company's earlier models.

All of the company's models are backed-up by a comprehensive range of accessories including buckets for front loaders, buckets for excavators, and a vast array of other tools, all designed to ensure operators have the right tool for the job.
